Tomato sauces commonly sold in grocery stores are an abomination and unforgivable insult to the Italian culinary tradition. Not only are they oversweetened with garbage additives like high fructose corn syrup that is the mark of an inferior product, but pre-made tomato sauces also omit the flavor that is necessary to compliment pasta. As a result of this safe approach, they are a complete failure. Luckily, you don't have to settle for bottled boredom if you are willing to make your own sauce. Buy fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, herbs (especially basil and oregano), spices (especially black pepper and salt), olive oil, and any vegetable additions you enjoy (red peppers, green peppers, celery, mushrooms).
